I see both used, so it may not matter, but I was wondering from an english usage perspective, which is right.

Both are the same. However, in proper language usage, web site is preferable. While "web site" is referring to a noun, "website" is referred as an object, or an entity. In terms of usage, both terms bring the same meaning to Internet viewers.

Do a proof reading for both words, or refer to a dictionary. The result is the same - no meaning.

Hope this helps.
