Fact that you got into Varsity tells me that you have the ability to also get your degree!!
I'd suggest you should start paying your own varsity fees and then you'll see the time your waisting by not studying.
Fact is, Varsity is a jol and everyone knows that. The trick is to study a little every day. Go through the material you've discussed in class every afternoon. That way you'll be halfway there ones exams start.

First of all go through the syllabus and fix yourself the number of hours you would require to complete each subject chapter wise. This would give you approximately how much of time you would require to prepare for your examinations. suppose you require 500 hours for you to prepare completly. And the time for examinations is 3 months ahead that means you have 30 X 3 X 24 hours out of which you go to college, eat , relax and sleep . You minus all these hours and calculate how many hours you have.. Even if you study for five hours a day you will not be able to cover all your subjects because in 3 months 5 hours a day will give you a short fall of 10 days or 50 hours. This way you prepare and this reality is sufficient to motivate you to read thouroughly and sucessfully write the exam in full honours. . Also Eat salted Almonds & cashew nuts and one teaspoon of honey every day to give you more memory and will power to write the examinations. All the best .

I'm a Mechanical Engineer- licensed PE, and an adjunct professor at a local school-

1) You need to decide- do I really want to be an engineer, or is this something my parents/guidance counselor/etc. pushed me into?

2) If the answer is 'yes', then start with
A-Kick your 'friends' out of the dorm room, or find a quiet spot in the library to study-if they are real friends, they'll understand-better yet, pick some new friends out of the brighter lights in your classes-hook up and start studying with them...they may not be the coolest, but they'll be the ones graduating...
B- Tony Robbins is not an engineer- you have resources at your school- work with them

C- We all need to start small-get with your faculty advisor, or student services- they don't set out to see students fail- if you need help in getting some good study habits,or as one poster put it, get checked out for ADHD(I've got my master's in ME,and I was diagnosed with it a few years ago) it's the place to start.

D- The most important thing to remember is "Why am I here?" You can hang out with 'friends' anytime- in five years, you probably won't remember their names-your education will last the rest of your life-Good Luck!

You are obviously easily influenced by friends. It is a good sign that you recognize that: meaning you are ready to effect change.
1. Change your friends and choose friends that are academically focussed. "Birds of thesame feather flock together."
2. Consider changing roommates.
3. If 2 doesn't work for you, then consider going to the library or someplace where can concentrate and are not easily distracted.
4. Of course, when it's time to catch some fun, enjoy with your friends, but be careful. You have to have enough willpower to decide for a change.

Perhaps going to the library, finding a quite corner will produce an environment conducive to learning. Some folks study with music or television playing. For me, a quiet area with no distractions works best. Set up your routine with scheduled study time. This will allow you to plan ahead and complete any competing activities before your study period. You may need to experiment with the room and schedule to determine what is best for you. Studies have proven that when we are multi-tasking, our performance lags. Work hard and you will prosper.
