I graduated a few years ago and I do not smoke, but I hope you can use this:
My brother smokes (tobacco and pot) and is attempting his junior year for the 2nd time. His GPA is a 2.0. My sister and I never smoked and graduated with 3.5 and 3.6 respectively. My sister is a vet tech and a sophmore in college and I have a bachelors in organic chemistry. I cannot work at the moment, as I am pretty pregnant, but I was working as a paramedic.
Good luck with your project!

Educational system is different in my country so no GPA in high school. Anyway, I started smoking at an early age and I always had excellent results at school - I mean A, A+ in every possible subject (no B-s or less). And I studied in a very good school where requirements were really high. I entered and graduated from university with excellent results as well (I was a chain smoker by that time).
No relationship between results and smoking - I've just always been such a smart girl :)
BTW, I'm 25 now, I teach English to university students and I had smoked for over 10 years before I quit smoking six months ago when I got pregnant.
My beloved one used to be a chain smoker as well (smoked for over 10 years and started at an early age). He also graduated with excellent results. He's been a non-smoker for six years. He's a successful journalist and writer now.

I'm out of high school, and I've since quit smoking, but when I was in high school, I smoked and my grades were fine (we don't have GPA) but I got 80-90% so whatever that translates into for GPA. I personally think smoking is more a "symptom" of other problems, for example (only an example) people in abusive homes are more likely to smoke AND have poor grades, as opposed to just smoking causing the poor grades... Just opinion.
