but when i press or apply pressure to it, the vibration just goes away... does anyone know what part of the computer is in there? the vibration is not as strong as the one in the optical drive.

Hi there again Keith...some of the Macbook's will produce a vibration when the optical drive is in use, however if it's just the machine itself without a CD/DVD inserted this could either the Hard Drive or a defect which needs to be repaired under the Apple Warranty. Consider giving Apple Tech Support (800-SOS-APPL) a ring to determine if you need to send in your computer for repair. Turnaround time is generally under 5 days. Apple will ship out a pre-paid box for you to ship the computer back to them.

Probably either hard drive or cooling fan. I run an IBM clone, and the cooling fan really makes it vibrate. Quite normal as far as I know.

It's probably just the Hard Disk, bearing in mind they spin from 4,000 - 7,200 rpm. Try not to press on it, since laptop hard disks are easily damaged from pressure.

yes, macbooks do that in the wild to signal that they are about to do something mundane, like find a file, or connect to their gay internet.
