http://www.americanexpats.co.uk/ is a website for Americans in the UK. There are also many groups in Yahoo Groups and in MSN Groups where you can talk to others in your situation. I live in Spain so I know of a few places. Search "American Goodies" on google for a store that sells American groceries if you're missing food from home that is hard to find abroad. Good Luck! :)

Stay with Yahoo, which is an American company and allows you
to tailor your home page attending your interests, and typing errors
are the American way. Also you can enter Yahoo USA and open
through them, which is the way most Americans go and who live
abroad. Example: I was born in Scotland, am a British citizen and,
despite the fact that there is a Brazilian Yahoo, I opened up here
in the UK. Only difference is, when I am awarded a "best answer"
I get the advice from Brazil, in Portuguese which is no problem.
Why did I open in the UK? Because English is my native language
and Yahoo.br do not cater to Mac OSX platforms.

Yes, the American Embassy has a website: http://www.usembassy.org.uk/

You did not state what you are looking for in a website. If you are craving sweets from "back home", then have a look at the Cyber Candy website with 2 locations in Covent Garden:

http://www.cybercandy.co.uk/aaasmt/
Items are pricey but tasty.

Now then, if you are looking for an all encompassing website that "looks after Americans", then you won't find it. You, very likely, speak English and you probably have enough money to move around comfortably in the UK. Get on with enjoying and experiencing the UK for what it is and asking questions if you need help. If the colloquialisms stump you, then go to Waterstones on Oxford Street, look at one of their free-standing racks and you will find humorous booklets helping Americans translate English. They are written tongue-in-cheek but still manage to shed some light on such phrases as: "Taking the piss", "half-penny" and "toad-in-the-hole".
Good luck.

I can't imagine living in the UK would present many, if any, difficulties to US Americans. Perhaps they are baffled by our language?
