I'm thinking of the music from approximately 1988-1992. It was sort of a transitional period between 80's pop/R&B and 90's dance/R&B. Think Vanessa Williams, Black Box, Kylie Minogue, Technotronic, C&C Music Factory, etc. Is there a word for it?

That was when I was in college and "grunge" music was the big rage. That's what I think of when you mention that time period of music.
