it's a 1990 dodge ram cargo van 1/2 ton. I've never had any trouble with it starting before. This moring I tried starting it and it doesn't even click (the dome light and headlights do come on and the buzzer for when the key is in the ignition but the door is open sounds). No whinning like it's trying to turn over or anything. I thought the cold (it's below freezing this morning) might have something to do with it, but i've now re-charged my battery and it STILL won't do anything... is it just too cold for this poor old thing to start yet? or could it be something more serious?

yes it could be too cold for it. do you live in a high moisture area or near salt water? this will accelerate corrosion of your electrical components 1) remove and polish the battery posts and cables 2) charge the battery again . try again, the starter is getting old and it takes more energy to "turn over" also how old /cheap is that battery? Joe's discount battery won't last 3 years whereas a sears die hard will easily do 5, good luck , keep at it , it's a pleasure to respond to a question with plenty of information.

It is more than likely the starter. I just had the same problem
However, check the posts first for corrosion. Wipe them off or pour a dark coke on them and wipe them again. It'll eat the corrosion. Also, like answered before, try getting a jump. If you can find your starter (it will be located at the bottom, middle, front of the Van and if you trace your positive battery cable from the battery all the way down to the other end, you can find it that way too. Tap on it with a hammer or something and try it... or have someone hold a screwdriver up to the positive and negative posts on the starter and start it that way. It'll bypass the starter.

You are not getting elect power to the starter. Check barrery post are clean and tight. Check all grounds. Bat tp ground Engine to ground. Check relay or bendix. I`m thinking is is dirty bat post. Have fun tioday.

Are you sure the battery recharged? Sometimes when a battery is bad you can't recharge it. Try jump starting it off another vehicle.
