No, it's not just you. I think the emphasis of Christmas shifted to materialism and commercialism a long time ago which is sad. Everyone thinks they have to spend a fortune, causing a lot of depression and financial crises! I'm an outgoing, generous, fun person, so I don't think anyone could call me a miserable Scrooge, but I don't like what Christmas has become. It's also a very lonely time for a lot of people! You're right, people become very false too. What's all this about sending Christmas cards to people you don't even like? It baffles me. I'm always relieved in January when the hype has died down.

Remember the 'secret santa' way of buying presents in the office, where everyone writes on paper what they want, put the papers in a box and everyone picks out one piece and buys that present. Well we do this in our family. We set a price limit (this year £40) I will spend £40 on one present but it will be from the whole family. There are 10 of us in the scheme (no one under 16). It isn't everyones way to go but it works for us. £40 and the present is listed. No shopping, no hoping its right, no worrying I didn't spend enough. Leaves me money and time to do the things that Christmas is all about. (And I get exactly what I asked for).

Christmas is the time of year when people travel long distances to have a huge gluttonous meal together and then at 3pm have a massive argument over something minor and then depart for another year of fond absence.

I enjoy christmas, but I honestly think it has become too commercialized, and there really isn't much meaning put to the holiday. It really irritates me how each year christmas decorations come out earlier and earlier in the stores. Last year it was right before thanksgiving, and this year they came out before halloween. Whats next, christmas stuff out with the 4th of july?

Don't spend what you don't want to spend. That is not the idea of Christmas, If you cannot afford, don't push yourself. But if you can spare some money, why not make other people happy. If you do not happy with giving money or present away. Take a look at yourselves, what you have taken from other for granted, their love, their help, even little thing need to be appreciated.

OH you are not a scrooge. i have never liked christmas. it makes me want to vomit. i have never liked christmas though. since i was a child my christmas's have gotten increadibly worse. plus the fact that i always spend way to much money trying to make people happy. and honestly it never works. in addition i havent recieved a present in years. granted this probably makes me sound like a horrible greedy person but i dont really care. if i'm going to spend my hard earned money to make them happy why shouldnt they return the favor.

Yeh, it's you, your a man. Men always say they hate Christmas, they don't....give them a present and watch how much they enjoy it.....they are just cheap, and hate spending money on thoes they love. It will get worse if you let it, and believe me, the women in your life will hate you for it. Put on a smile, shop for the best prices, and just shut up.

Christmas used to be a great holiday, when it meant what it was supposed to. Now Christmas is just another time of year for people to act crazy and waste money.
