If a couple files for an annulment does this mean their kids are bastards?

Why do people get an annulment when they can get a divorce or vise versa?

Why is an annulment okay and a divorce is not religiously? Like if you file for a divorce you get shunned out of the church(?)

Annulment is a pronouncement that the marriage was void or invalid (almost like it never existed), while divorce acknowledges the marriage and disolves it. Any children conceived or born during the marriage would not be considered illegitimate--they would be recognized as the children of both parents under the law.

I think it's an annulment if it is done within the first 6 months of marriage. After that, it would be a divorce. I believe so.

divorces are messy and expensive!

Anullments basically happen soon after marriage and basically erases it off the books as if you were never married at all.
