It more a case of not all printer work with all operating systems especially retrospectively eg one that works on XP most likely wont work on win 98 though I have had trouble the other way around as well. There are sometimes hardware conflicts around what chips you have on the mother board or the BiOS (sorry getting too technical) What I would do is see what OS the printer can work with and if its the one you have chances are it will work. You can also look at the manufacturers website and they should list any known compatibility issues. As for which printer to buy that is a tricky one but I like cannon as a brand. But I believe Which? reviewed some a while ago and they have a free on line trial offer (just don't forget to unsubscribe though)

Go onto the HP website and enter in your 27 and 28, it will then come up with a list of compatible printers, watch out for the pre christmas sales and you should be able to pick up a decent HP printer. I know the 1200 series uses 27 and 28 as I have one.

As long as you have the correct contection on your computer for the printer then there is no reason as to why it should not work. A few oldder computers will not work with moden printers as they are USB.
As for the ink if you get the make make then there is a good chance that you will be able to use the ink in your new printer.

RE: Which printers have compatibility with Dell desktops? besides the definitely Dell printers? I havent had stable adventure with Dell printers so i'm thinking of determining to purchase for yet another sort which would be properly suited with my Dell laptop.

It all depends on how you can connect the printer to the computer (eg/ usb or parallel) and the operating system you are using. If you are on Windows you can have almost any printer. If you are on other OS you need to check with the printer manufacturer that the driver is available.

I just bought a new high spec computer and i cant even attach my very expensive printer because the new machine does not have a parallel port. Apparently dell have decided that only USB printers will be supported as standard.

99% of all printers are compatible with 99% of all computers. (Somebody somewhere will be able to find a printer that will not work with a certain computer - so I will not say 100%). So you can use any printer you want as long as your PC has the correct port to attach it.
