if so does anyone know legally what hours they are allowed to work on that one day. And are they still eligiable for the minimum wage?

No, 14 year olds are not entitled to the minimum wage...

and they can only work the hours between 8am and 6pm for no longer than 6 hours.

you will not be fully entitled to the minimum wage until your 18... but i think that may change with the new age discrimination act.

but yes, a 14 year old can get a job in a shop... but there are some limitations as to what you could do health and safety wise... (eg. i know that burger king CAN employ 14 year olds, but they are only allowed to 'run')

If you work in a shop obviously you wont be allowed to sell cigarettes, knifes, alcohol, lighters, matches and a few other things. But yes, legally you can work in a shop.

hope it helped.

a 14 year old is not entitled to minimum wage....that is only entitled to you at the age of 16. Also at the age of 14 you should look into getting a work permit. There are certain jobs that under 16's cannot do and this may include things that you wouldn't even have thought about. I know one of them is that they cannot work in a fish and chip shop or anywhere where there is cooking involved.

if you check out this link it will tell you exactly what is ok for a 14 year old to be doing work wise: http://www.connexions-direct.com/index.cfm?pid=75&catalogueContentID=120&render=detailedArticle

Fourteen isn't legal for work in the UK, I think it's because you'd still be classified as a child and obviously child labour is illegal.
However, you could get a paper round. They do pay better than they would have when I was your age, and it will mean you can save up for what you want. Alternatively, why not try asking your parents if you can help around the house and agree with them that you'll get a pound for say washing the car, or looking after your siblings while your mum cooks dinner, something like that.
You could of course gather your old things together, things you no longer need and perhaps are too old for and sell them at a car boot sale, you'd get some money for that.
Alternatively, ask your parents if they can list some of your unwanted items on Ebay.

No, you have to be 16 to work in a shop.
You could still get a paper round, or leafleting, but it doesn't pay very well.
(by the way - it's eligible, not eligiable)

I shouldn't tell you this but when I was 14 I got a job serving and clearing tables in a cafe. Their minimum age was 15 but I lied and they never looked into it!! Most places will state 15 as a minimum age but a lot of rural pubs take on 14 year olds to collect glasses, clean etc. I doubt if high street places would legally take you on.

The legal working age is 14 and 9 months with parents consent, sorry hunny. You could always ask for cash in hand work around the neigbourhood like cleaning, car washing (not in Australia, water shortages), mowing, gardening, walking dogs etc.... hope this helps.

Yes you can but it also depends on your state law and what kind of work and how hazardous it is also your state law will say what hours you can work I don't think they would allow a 12AM to 8AM shift if this was a family owned shop the guidelines might be different.
