Would this course provide a sufficient platform for a decent starting job? I am a graduate in economics and do not have any other professional qualification. Is the LIFA opiton a good choice to enter the financial feild? This course is very flexible and i find it very suitable otherwise.

LIFA is Thompson Financial's attempt of offering a competiting certificate to the CFA Institute's "CFA" charter with a similar scope as the CFA coursework. It is used for investment, securities brokerage and insurance industries.

By far and away, the CFA is the most highly respected, most coveted analyst certification. The LIFA is much less expensive, much easier to pass and much, much, much lower profile. If you look in financial classified ads and check with headhunters, you'll find that they want the CFA designation - not LIFA.

Hence, I would not recommend wasting your time trying to do a cheaper, easier, less regarded test that still takes three years to pass. If I might suggest an analogy, it's like taking a distance learning course certificate of economics instead of going to Harvard. Sure, you've done the material, but I'm concerned that it may not give you the leg up you need to get a decent starting job.

My mantra is do it once, do it right. Besides, most reputable investment companies pay for your CFA once you join.

They don't analyze anything... They just try to sell stock. When your pay is determined by how much you sell... I would hardly say you are an unbiased person. I've never heard a financial analyst say its a bad time to buy.
