Yes, I know they can stop working like any electronic device. I wonder specifically about the speaker phone - even when I have five bars, people in the last few weeks keep saying that I'm breaking up or the signal is weak.

What's the normal life of a cell phone, assuming you take good care of it?

yes i think a phone like any electronic device has a life span and will almost definately wear out.a year and a half to two years seems adequate. i try to change my phone every 18 months though.
how long have you had your phone and has it dropped or hit something in recent times?that may be the answer to the poor signal that the people you speak with are complaining about.
or is your cell provider experiencing any signal problems?call your customer care hot line and find that out as well.

As with all mechanical devices, they have components that do wear out. Spreakers as you mentioned, also the battery, the keys. Whats normal these days. Most cells I've owned have lasted more than 2 yrs.

The battery will wear out before the phone. Batteries are just as expensive as the phone, so its best to just get another phone.
