The chipset name is Intel 945GM. The "G" stands for Graphics built-in and the "M" stands for mobile. This chipset is usually, but not always, used in laptops/notebooks and offers good power savings over the previous chipset.. A chipset is the group of Integrated controllers that perform various tasks and interconnect all the peripherals on the motherboard so that they can communicate and transfer data with items like the CPU, Memory and other installed devices.

This particular chipset has a built-in Graphics card that communicates with the rest of the system using an PCI-Express 16X bus. The "Accelerated Graphics Port" is a special "bus", a method by which only Graphics controllers can communicate data with other system components, mainly memory and CPU. This 945GM chipset however offers the PCI-Express bus which is much faster and efficient than the AGP bus. Intel have a reputation for making the most barebones Graphics controllers so aren't recommended if you will be using your computer for games or CAD or anything graphics intensive.

Every "decent" graphics card has it's own memory available to it. The memory on modern graphics cards "DDR3" is faster than the memory you would normally use to run your system "DDR2". Intel have made this cut-back chipset to allow for cost savings to the consumer by using some of the system memory and allocating it to the Graphics card. Not only is the memory slower than required for decent graphics card but it also "steals" from system memory which can sometimes, depending on what the system is used for, be more of a critical factor the overall system performance. This Graphics card is absolutely perfect for doing office based tasks though.

The Intel 945GM uses DDR2 memory and a PCI-Express bus of 16X.

It's more info than you need but I hope it helps

the Intel 945GM built-in means that your Graphics Accelerator is built-in, not separated in the form of a video card. The Intel Enhancement hardware says your built-in graphics is good for 2d/3d graphics. And lastly, your 224 MB shared means that your system memory is shared with your graphics memory, which is usually the scene with built-in graphics.

This means your built in video controller can utilize up to 224MB of the system memory. On-board graphics accelerators usualy don't have dedicated graphics memory and must use the RAM to store textures. When the accelerator is loaded the amount of memory utitized grows up. You can controll the maximum amount of memory that can be used by the video controller. In your case you cxan increase it upto 224MB.

This is telling you that your system has an onboard video card and the amount of memory you can allow your video system use.

Depending the actual amount you have installed, you want to have this setting at it's highest. Keep in mind that onboard graphics are not game friendly but should handle basic tasks fine.
