There is a section in yahoo answers that has the heading "ALTERNATIVE" . Can anyone explain me what is ??

Both above answers are nonsense. There is no such thing as either alternative medicine or science. For instance; when something is effective in curing you of a sickness we call it medicine, there is no alternative to this. Either it works and is medicine, or it does not work. The same with science. This site is one of the stupidest moves YA has made; so far.

I think you might be referring to "Alternative Medicine." By this people are usually referring to the use of Herbs, acupuncture, homeopathy, chiropractic, etc. or other forms of alternative or complementary healing outside the realm of allopathy which is the traditional form of medicine used by the medical profession. Alternative refers to topics which haven't got any other catagory because they are not in the mainstream of the accepted norm. They are considered taboo or too kooky to be taken seriously by "reputable science."

As in, "out of the mainstream". For example, when people speak of "alternative lifestyles", they refer to non-comformists who may have adopted socially unaccepted practices, such as polygamy. Lilkewise, "Alternative Science" refers to non-conforming views in science, generally rejected by the mainstream scientific community, so it would cover subjects such as the paranormal or astrology or monsters or UFOs.
