Poor you. Having your hours cut at work so close to Xmas is really tough. All I can suggest is trying to play down Xmas this year. Family and friends should understand the pressure you're under at the moment.

When I lost my job I wrote out a list of all of my bills and worked out which ones I could reduce by contacting the company involved, explaining my situation and offering a realistic smaller payment I KNEW I would be able to manage each month. They were really helpful and accepted the lower amount as they are still getting paid something each month.

Hope this helps your situation. I really feel for you.

Make people handmade christmas cards... they will love the thought, use paint, construction paper, anything, just be creative! Write them a sweet letter inside! (Very few people these days write personal letters, even for the holidays, they will enjoy it)... Don't worry about presents, but if you feel you need to do something about presents, there are inexpensive handmade things you can make for people - do an internet search. Good Luck! Remember, there are many people in similar situations, so you are not alone. Give people only what you can give... and take care of yourself over the holidays too!
Isn't it sad that Christmas has become a holiday such that if people don't have money to spend, it creates more stress than happiness? Give cards or tiny presents with lots of love.... maybe get someone their favorite chocolate bar.. or something.. think little but thoughtful. They will appreciate the thought and love that went into it. Hugs! It will be better some day!

Look on the positive side: Its Wednesday - 2 more working days left. You have had your hours cut - but at least you still have your job AND this means you have more free time to look for something that will sort out all your financial worries. I have learned to look for the positive in everything - trust me when you loose everything (except your life) and then you re-build your life and are better off now - you realise that the Darkest Sorrow has turned into a warm glow. Good luck- contact me if you want shoulder to cry on.

Chin up Herbie, finances go up and down in this world. The real bummer is being surrounded by dunderheads that think xmas is rated on how much you spend. Don't buy into the hype it meant to be about goodwill not good presents. Periods of chronic skintness over the festives does tend to sort the wheat from the chaff as reguards who your friends are. The good 'uns won't expect much as they will understand and if your lucky stand you a few drinks til the boat comes in

I can understand that is not the best period of your life, but you can do things to change the situation. Like you can find an extra job... or something like that. But don't cry!
You know there are other ppl who have nothing. Some others have lost their beloved ones, their houses sometimes even their personal freedom. So, break you small shelf-bubble, open your eyes, boost your self-confidence and act.
These everyday problems you address have a solution. And you can find it. Think positive and not selfish.
My best wishes.

well about the job thing - it shouldnt be too hard to get a part time job, or even another one - cos at least it will be more than £150 a week. about xmas - whats to stress about - its not meant to be about the gifts and the money, speak to your loved ones, i am sure they will understand... bring xmas back to what it should be - about sharing what you have, big or small , and just being together....

I agree try to get another job. If you can't do anything else cut back this Christmas people will have to understand you are not loaded and be grate full for what they get. Go and have a cry and make yourself feel better. Being skint is bad at any time you poor thing. You have my sympathy.
