Hello,
Atually this is a difficult question to answer. Because if you have never had suicidal feelings its hard to understand, such feelings and the accompanying mental state (state of mind) are very extreme and thats another reason that makes it harder to fully appreciate.
In my opinion (I have worked in mental health for the charity MIND some years ago) people committ suicide for a very wide number of reasons, so its hard to generalise about precisley why. Its also important to point out the difference between suicidal feelings and the actual act of suicide (actual taking of own life). As one doesnt neccessarily lead to the other.
However, I think you can group together some of the common reasons. 1) Deep intense long term depression. Sometimes people (young people as well as older people too) experience a very intense form of depression for which drugs, & conventional talking therapies dont prove very effective. If the depression drags on for a long period the person can feel life has no value for them. If that stage or state is reached then its not difficult to see why someone might want to take their own life.
2) Crisis, some form of crisis not caused by depression but end up with suicidal feelings. Due to some other kind of mental health problem.
3)Traumatic Event/s. Suicidal feelings can be brought on by other trautic life experiences (such as having been the victim of a rape, or the sudden death of a child or partner).
4) history of mental health, some people may have a history of mental health problems within their own family and might include suicidal felings. or even in some cases actual suicide too.
5) long term drug or substance addiction.
6) Long term emotional pain and distress that just doesnt go away and accommpanied a poor quality of life as a result.
**I think the actual act of taking your own life, is caused by the same end point though, the person has ended up with suicidal feelings because they feel life has no meaning or worth for them, if thats true then why am I here?. or who cares if Iive? I'd rather not be here? (i'd like to leave the planet and not remain in the human relm i.e, die).
**some people try to committ suicide but fail and this is often a cry for help, but those who are determined to succeed just go and do it anyway and there seems little one can do because its their own choice.

I have tried to take my own life on 2 occasions when i was a teenager, I was being abused by a family member and seen no way for it to stop. I thought that no one would understand how i felt, that they wouldnt believe me, that they would blame themselves and more. Things got on top of me and i just couldnt handle it anymore and decided that i would put a stop to it. Obviously i didnt succeed and am still here.
Most young people are scared of talking and expressing their feelings or have never been taught too. I just hope that parents are teaching their children that no matter what is going on that their is always someone to talk too and what they are feeling is nothing to be scared off and that they are not alone.

98% of suicide is due to the person being depressed and not being treated, some are being treated but with the wrong medicines.
When depressed some situations feel like life and death and the pressure and demands of it all make the person feel as though the only way out and to get rid of the grief, saddness and pain of it all is to end their own life.
It's sad and unfortunate but if you have never suffered from depression you couldn't ever really possibly understand how overwhelming most things can be to a person suffering from depression..
Try going to a suffering with depression website.. they will give you all the medical aspects of the situations that people suffering with depression deal with.
A note to the wise: Don't judge and sound critical about something that you have never experienced and that you do not personally understand.. it's being judgemental and hypocritical..

Social and cultural pressure united to loneliness and depression. That is the so called Christians look for in their homophobic campaigns. Some people are not up to it and decide to go, to rest for ever. It is similar to bullying cases, their last note comes as "I need a break from all this, cannot put up any more"

i think people commit suicide because they don't know how to deal with the situations that they are in. It is the feeling of "drowning in space", with the prospect of no-one being able to help you.
it's a situation that is allowed to get so out of control that the person just gets really tired of having to deal with it. it's not like the tired that you get from a workout. it's overwhelming. and the actual act of suicide is giving up a "losing battle".
But there are different forms of suicide. apparently psychologists say that pill poppers are just pleading for help, and people who hang themselves and any form of instantaneous death is just being resigned to defeat.
someone considering suicide should not be waved off. it is more complex than this though.

Because they're depressed. Either they're in a terrible situation and they don't believe there's any way out or they're suffering from depression as an illness and don't see any point of going on! It's terribly sad that they don't believe things will get any better and they may have done if only they'd gone to the right people for help.

Sometimes for those who take this path, they feel that there is nothing left here for them, or of course there could be alot of other reasons. The thing is, there are usually signs, indicators and if friends and family can learn what the signs and indicators are, then we have a better chance of helping those who seem to be going down that path.

because they do not feel loved by anyone or the one the felt loved by does not love them anymore, they think that life will never get better & that don't look @ the future only the here & now, so they figure since it stinks why be in it anymore. If they only knew that people do care , if they'd only get help from school, a Dr. or a church they could see that in time things do get better.
Take Care

The real answer is to ask persons who tried it. Some of them may be dead though. These people who try this just don`t know how to deal with life.

They believe that they are forgotten by others, that nobody loves them anymore and that only bad things happen to them, that nobody appreciate them. They fell in a huge depression, they say that there isn't worthing living any more and they decide to do it. Usually, the people who have seen a similar case with their own eyes are the one who are more tempted to do this.
