Call "Home Depot" or "Lowe's" ask for building and ask the guys there.

A general rule of thumb is 2x8 max span 8ft 2x10 10 ft etc etc.
The load specs are basically the same as long as it is properly supported.
The exact load specs also depend on the type of wood, ie Fir, Yellow pine, Pine, Hemlock etc.
If you build a deck using 2x8's on 16" centers, properly supported and 2x6's as deckboards, you could park a car on it.
Is that enough load?
