I thought the three wise men's (three kings of Orient, Zoroastrian priests/astrologists/stargazers) example to us was to give--not to receive.

I think a better question might be what have you thought to GIVE, and why?

Just imagine what kind of world this would be if we were all focused on giving to each other--serving each other, rather than receiving/being served.

The commercialization of Christmas has turned everyone into greedy, self-centered children.

Verily, the people who rejoice in the day of the feast and enjoyed the tree [1] (which) was decorated, following the custom of ancient times, are the people of superstitions. By the Majesty of thy Lord! Were they in the time of Christ, they would turn their backs and would not behold His smiling, glorious face; but today they in the shallow waters of their superstitions without discretion.
[1 Christmas tree.]

I have asked for a new jewellery box as my existing one is 38 years old. Also Pyjamas and a jumper and thats about it as I really don't need very much. Oh and someone else to do the cooking that would be the best Christmas present.

I have asked for a permanant full time teaching job- but I don't think I'll be getting this- I continue to fill out the application forms though! I want it cos I hate agency work- not knowing hwere I'm going every day- and mostly it's day nursery work which I find frustrating, and I get confused juggling 3 jobs, but it's the only way I can earn enough money to survive!

I just ask that my husband and my son will be able to have a wonderful Christmas. I am on maternity leave and have not been able to contribute a lot financially so I am not asking for any material things this year but I hope he is ready for next year.

A nice sweater because I don't have one and really wished I did yesterday. A new purse because I've been using the one I got last year all year. New bathing suits for swim team because mine all died during high school season with our two practices a day. And clogs because they're really cute and comfortable and I don't have any.
