To everyone who responded positively to my question yesterday and stood up against His name being used as a swear word in movies, may God's blessings be upon you! I expected more positive answers and I was really sad when I realised how few Christians answered. You guys made my day, thank you! To everyone else who had such vulger things to say about God, may God bless you too! Someone called me a freak, well, if standing up for God, fighting for Him and living for Him makes me a freak? Well, then I am a super freak!!!! God rules!

out of interest - what makes u believe in god? i was raised a catholic but am now a non-believer (tho i have lot of christian friends) but i always wonder what makes someone believe? my dad died a horrible death, my mum remarried an abusive ***, the planet is a shocking mess, people are starving and others are killing each other for no reason - what reason have u got to believe in a god who stands by and doesnt protect those who need his help? all those people who are good and prayer everyday- how can god be justified in letting them suffer?? this is what i really dont get

I understand your point, that in christianity, misusing God's name is wrong and the wide spread nature of motion pictures doin the same in front of large audiences should perhaps be a topic for discussion.

But it opens flood gates.

If motion pictures begin sanctioning movies based on the scripts' attitudes to god (in the same way violence, conventional swearing and nudity are sanctioned) then all manners of spirituality, from all divisions of religion ,have to be included in the interest of equality. Portrayl of muslims in pro-american films, the presence of hinduism in Bollywood, the portrayal of the devil (as his worshippers go to movies too). So what do you do?

Plus one of the most important aspects for a movie's artistic success is that there are characters, language and situations that are relatable to the audience that allows viewers to invest in the story. To be fair people misusuing the name of god is common in modern linguistics as a source of frustration and anger, so in the interest of authenticity perhaps filmakers have the right to sample language in the same way movies include the word ni.gger or sp.ick to help potray the reality of racial hatred and slang used in the real world.

I don't think removing mistreatment of God's name for movies would work until there's a social consciousness to do so in reality.

Fair point though.

I missed your question yesterday , sorry , I do also agree that his name is taken in vain far to often but not only in the movies . It doesn't make you a freak to love God . I believe the verse goes "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". It sort if applies .
God bless you

To many people your god does not exist, to many more you are worshipping the wrong god.

I assume you base your faith on that collection of human writings called the Bible, there are others who also have similar books you know.

So do we avoid all references to just your god or do you include others beliefs? How many faiths are there in the world and what are their gods called?

I think even God would have saw the funny side of Billy Connolly in The Man Who Sued God. It was brilliant.

The most abusive form of Gods name is when it is referenced in the heavily revised BIBLE,
best of luck to any who believe in that load of old twoddle.
It completely detracts from the belief in God.

God's name is abused everywhere. In the way people converse daily, at their jobs, stores, movies, books, music.......it really is sad.
