Test bores or wells are made in the suspected direction of the ground water flow which is determined by examination of local topography and geology. Then the samples from each well are tested and concentration levels of contaminants noted on charts. From the type and relative concentration level the contamination can be traced back to its source and estimates of where it will go later can also be made.
