Several other planets are also visible to the human eye from Earth, namely, Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. You could probably see them yourself on most clear nights if you know where to look, Venus in particular is one of the brightest objects in the night sky next to the Sun and the Moon. Not counting the Earth, the five planets I just listed were all the planets that were known in classical times (actually, it was conjectured by Aristarchus of Samos that the Earth orbited around the Sun as well, but no one at that time, even Aristarchus himself, really took the idea seriously). Uranus and Neptune were NOT known to the ancients; Uranus was discovered in 1781 and Neptune in 1846, both using optical telescopes and on the basis of the heliocentric model of the Solar System as described by Isaac Newton. What makes this a bit confusing is that they are nevertheless named after the ancient roman gods, in keeping with the existing western names for the other planets.
