I have a sharp pain in the distal joint of my big toe. I am a ballet dancer who dances 20hrs a week, so i know it could be a stress fracture. Any other ideas? It hurts alot when walking and when it is moved passively, especially when moved side to side.

There is only one joint in the hallux or great toe and as a result there is by definition no "distal" joint. However, to answer your question you may have one of several diagnoses. It may be only a ligamentous strain, or possibly a chip fracture at the joint level. Gout would reveal itself as severe swelling, pain, and bright redness (erythema). Likely you may need an X-ray to more fully evaluate this concern.
