they say the average Ferret lives about 8 years but having 28 ferrets through the years, I've seen them live 12 years and as low as 5. What you do with your Ferret now is going to make the difference up the road. What you feed it, A Ferret needs a special diet and there are some good food products and supplements out on the market, Proper housing, REGULAR vet checks A lot of people don't know that when you buy a Ferret from the pet store, your Ferret should have a certificate with a number on it and that number should match the Little Tattoo in your Ferrets ear,( most people don't know that Ferrets have Tattoos) but due to laws and state regulations, Ferret breeders have to ID the animal and they do it with Tattoos. Marshalls Ferret farm can give you a lot of advise with the laws and those Tattoos but make sure your ferret has that certificate and matching Tattoo and it will show what shots that ferret had and what you still need to get them and do!, get them. this makes for a healthy Ferret a long with regular visits to the vet. and you can put years on your little friend. One more note on This fuzzies...they're play time outside the cage should be every day and is very important to the life spand.Your Ferret is a meat eater and make sure that what you feed him is more meat than anything else...IE fruits and veggies. Also, try to refrain from feeding your ferret table scraps, this isn't good for them.Note:: watch for electrical cords, dryers(more people have turned the cloth's dryer on just to find their Ferret in with the cloth's) and refridgerators, these fans can come on at any time and kill your Ferret. Watch them close! and your little friend will give you years of fun.

Ferrets generally have a short life span. At about the age of 2 or 3 they start to get some of the diseases that can be fatal to them such as Adrenal Disease, Insulinoma, Cancer, etc. Barring any of these things, a ferret can typically live about 8 years. I have had ferrets live much longer...i.e....12 years. Just keep in mind that for every ONE of our years, ferrets age 14 years. So if you have a ferret that's say over 3 years old, he's almost a senior citizen. Here's a good website: www.ferretcentral.com
