Christian or not, all my lot will be working over Christmas. One of the joys of working with animals. They still need to be fed, watered and checked over twice a day. Fun.

Well, history will show you that pagans were having a mid-winter festival for a very long period before the Christians came along and hijacked that festival, just as they built the early churches over the sites of pagan temples.

By the way, Easter is also a festival overlaid on the spring festivals that had previously been held at that point of the year, and the name 'Easter' is derived from the name of a Roman goddess...

So I'll not be working over Christmas, but celebrating the mid-winter!

Well said PhD!! I'll be celebrating the pagan winter festival- the event Christians stole, with their high and mighty attitude. Do they not know paganism was the chief religion in this country until it was hijacked? They cry when someone says things about their religion but are ignorant and intolerant of the truth.

Its quite true to say that there were pagan celebrations at this time of year long before christianity.

However, when you think about it, its a good time of year for a party for any culture. Your are sitting miserable in your mud hut or cave, half starving, the days are very short and cold..........then someone says "hey we are past the longest night so things will get brighter now!" ...Yeah, good time for a celebration!

We are non-christians... my husband will be off work the week of christmas. And even though we don't share the same beliefs as our family, we still celebrate the spirit of christmas, peace on earth, goodwill towards our fellow man, and family.

The Council of Nicea decided to change the date of Christmas to co-incide it with the pagan Yule celebration and the Mithraic Birthday of 25th December and also the birth date of Apollo, so if anyone has used dates to their personal advantage, it's the Christians

Xmas is one day and most companies are closed. Some people take the opportunity to take vacations because schools are on holiday recess.

Xmas is also not the only holiday in December. Any educated person would know this.

Christians and Non-chriatians will both be given the time off, instead of seing it as christmas period, y not see it as a rest period?

Christmas is festival that has been hijacked by Christians. I do find the whole idea of a fat man sliding down a chimney a little more plausible than the beliefs of the Christian faith.
