At a certain point me and my folks and my siblings came to a conclusion. None of us are children anymore, we're all reasonable adults and none of us have money to go throwing around.
So what we do is give each other stuff that we can actually use. Rice, Toothpaste, Paper Towels...you name it.
But then there's the thing where you use up the "gifts" so what do you have to hang onto other than memories.
That's why we also do a scrapbook every year at Christmas. We make one for each person, identical to the others and we make a video of it. We just take pictures in duplicates, make photocopies and then get together for food, fun and making our little books.
Yeah it's kind of corny but I'd rather be corny than materialistic.
Peace Be With You

Don't know the age of your mum, but if she is anything like mine, how about something she would not buy for herself. A really nice luxurious jumper and a lovely meal just the two of you.

Your time is more precious than anything. Be with her at Christmas. If you want to buy a gift how about a magazine subscription that she could enjoy all year ?

For her birthday this year, I got my mom a personalized photo album, with a poem on the front that goes something like "My mother kept a garden..."
They also engraved her name and my personal message, along with the year. She loved it so much! You should have seen the waterworks! Be sure to put some photos in the album as well!
You can find this photo album and others like it at www.Personalizationmall.com.
