The film isn't that bad...but I think the book's much better. There are a few differences between the book and the movie. For example, Jenny and Forrest don't get married in the book, but they do in the movie. That makes some people think about whether she would marry Forrest, if she wasn't pregnant. Forrest still has the son with her, I think, but it wouldn't be so 'dramatic' if they didn't marry. Movies like to make things so dramatic.
But anyway, try reading the book...it's not same as the movie. Then maybe you can tell how come you don't like the movie so much.

"My momma always said - Stupid is as stupid does" A wonderful movie with the right elements of all kinds of human emotions and ground breaking motion picture techniques (Remember that scene where Forrest shakes his hand with JFK?). Apart from that the movie is celluloid point of view of all the major developments of the later half of the 20th century in which Forrest was a part with/without his knowledge (Remember how he shows Elvis Presley to do that groovy moves?). He even invests in Apple computers participates in one of the greatest American setbacks called Vietnam war and what not - the movie chronicles everything and yet doesnot give you the feel of a documentary. This was one of the greatest stories ever told in Hollywood about a so called half-wit ("Stupid") who is present at all the right turns of the 20th century. "Life is like a box of chocolates - You never know what you are goingna get" Similarly the movie is so engrossing that you keep waiting as to which would be next event that Forrest would unwittingly become a part of!

Forrest Gump is a great film and Tom Hanks was exceptional as Forrest. Many of the ideas and themes of the movies just seemed outlandish for many viewers, but, that was the whole intention of the story. I loved it!

I have mixed feelings about it. On the one hand, it's an unlikely hero, great acting and complex relationships portrayed over time. It's also a study in what really matters - the determination to do whatever feels right, and not to worry about what anyone else might think. There are certainly lessons for those of us who feel we are more complex or more clued-in than Forrest about the truly important things in life.
As a "recent history of America' movie, yes, it's very hokey, and Forrest's path seems to put him in the middle of practically everything interesting that happened over several decades (I almost expected to see him become the first civilian in space, but of course Tom did the whole Apollo 13 thing, so he got there in the end...). In that respect, and in the external "life is like a box of chocolates" philosophy, it's a soppy, slightly sappy movie. But that doesn't really take away from the emotional impact of the deaths and events that are its turning-points - Bubba, Jenny, Momma, Lieutenant Dan's wounding, fall, and "resurrection" through his involvement with Forrest. All in all, I think it will be viewed historically as a flawed, occasionally over-sentimental piece, but one with enough human connection and positivity to redeem itself and stand as one of the great "Sunday afternoon movies" of the age.

It is a beautiful film with a bit of everything - drama, comedy and sadness. I think it is the best film Tom Hanks has ever done!

I love that movie. I saw it in the theater when it came out, and probably watched it a million time since. Everytime it is on TV i watch it, or at leat try to. So, no, i do not think that this movie was a waste of time. I think that Tom Hanks is a awesome actor, and this is one of his few classics.

I watched this movie first in the cinema in October 1987. I have the video, and have watched that a few times since then and it has been on TV a few times too.
Any film or piece of information which makes you think, and tells a good story, is not a waste of time.
The path of life is varied for many people, yet at the same time people live parallel and opposite lives. What is common amongst all paths of life, is what makes people realise that people who live different lives are in fact very similar to everyone else deep down.
They just have a different destiny.

It was a bit far fetched, but then most hollywood films go from the sublime to the ridiculous.
I liked it cos it had that feel good factor that you also get from Disney films. I think Tom Hanks played the part remarkably well. Thumbs up from me.

It was a good movie when it came out but not nothing I would watch 100s of times like Grease and Dirty Dancing. I saw some people stoned in an Amsterdam Bar singing and laughing hysterically "Run Forrest Run" - that was very funny. So has made an impact!
