You do not know what the rabbit died from. The rabbit was only two years old and rabbits live 7 to 10 years. If the rabbit is not fresh and the guts were not taken out it would not be good to eat it. Also with the rabbit being two years old the meat would be more tough and would be needed to be cooked right. In short I would not eat it.

Hey! I say....If you can ask this question on a world wide web site..you can eat the rabbit! I do think that one guy was right and you eat it already and are now having second thoughts but what the heck right? There's only about 30 main parasites that live in domestic rabbits that would kill it at two years of age so the odds are with you there but the 89 different disease that probably killed you pet is what I would worrie about. This wasn't ment to make you mad, I thought I'd just point out some stats. I've eaten wild and domestic rabbit and I'm still here. :)

It's not a good idea to do so after they have died on their own. The meat will go bad if it sets out too long. And really its a good idea to know what it died of. It's especially a bad idea if you have the rabbits on any kind of medication, especially medications like sulfaquinoxiline. The USDA recommends that rabbits be taken off any medications for x number of days if it is going to be used for human consumption.
Also, if it is 2 years old it won't be the best of meat. Rabbits used for meat production are normally butchered around 70 days old so the meat is tender and tastes better.

well you could eat him I suppose but since humans do not eat carrion and you don't know what it died of, you might end up being very sick from it. Give it a try and let us know.
Oddball, if your rabbits only live for 2 years I don't think you should kjeep them any more as you are obviously doing something very wrong. Their normal life span is around 7 years.

Indeed, it is a waste not to eat something which has sacrificed its life in order that you may have a good meal. It may have died of something poisonous from the garden (if indeed you are the sort of caring owner who let him run free) and by eating him you will rid the world of an owner who could even contemplate ingesting something which brought them love and affection for two years. Please don't buy another as your insensitivity would probably kill that one too. You will be reported to the Bunny Police.

ok, first of all an 8 year previous shouldn't "very own" a rabbit. no longer lecturing you, i HATE it whilst human beings try this... yet purely, opportunities are high you probably did no longer recognize sufficient approximately rabbits back then to maintain him healthful. have self assurance it or no longer, Rabbits are very emotional creatures too. Guinea pigs and animals like that too... Timmy could have been depressed (this sounds like crap yet i'm extreme right here) because of the fact he did no longer have the different rabbit buddies to be with. I dont' mean friends, i purely mean different rabbits. Depeding on whilst to procure Timmy, he could have been depressed because of the fact he became those days separated from kinfolk or maybe different rabbits on the shop. once you purchase a rabbit you ought to confirm you're giving it consistent interest. talk with it. Hand feed it (yet no longer iceburg lettuce, supplies them tummy aches). Hand feed it wheat and carrots or maybe clover. flow outdoors and %. some leaves or clover to feed to rabbits, it does them good to have of course grown issues. that's maximum in all probability why Timmy died. it rather isn't any longer your fault! this is the 1st step in having the flexibility to resign crying. recognize that it rather is purely no longer your fault. i'm a 15 year previous boy and recognize plenty approximately rabbits because of the fact my grandpa saved them in view that i became born. next time you get a rabbit, purely confirm you cope with it as though it have been human *(incredibly as quickly as you first purchase it)*. i might say Timmy died from melancholy...yet next time you would be waiting. :] i'm sorry on your loss nonetheless, it rather isn't any exciting dropping a puppy... -Tanner yet optimistically the destiny would be brighter. :D good success.

No you cant do that you have no idea what he died from especially as it was a premature death he could have had a terrible disease.
Best to just bury him, If you shoot the next one then it will be ok to eat.

dude this is the funniest question thus far lol
umm sounds like you have already eaten your pet. i mean how long till it's rotted right? and no one i know would be asking this .. if they hadn't already done it and then wondered if that action was wrong or not
i wouldn't eat my pet anything. in your case you would have to have no food in the house or anywhere and are dead broke and hungry enough to look at your beloved dead pet and skin the thing then cook it with tears in your eyes and eat it while crying and saying " my rabbit was my bestist buddie, now it will be a part of me always". just saying lol

I don't suppose you are keeping the rabbit in the freezer so by the time you decide to bury it or to cook it, it's no longer fresh and you are gonna get real sick buddy. Worth it?

dont eat things that died naturally, its not healthy. its an ancient rule. you dont why it died, bury it and let the bacteria and fungi enjoy it. its not a waste them. you made a colony of bacteria, etc. very happy. well done
