Every 4 years, next one would be 2008. There are 366 days in a leap year instead of 365, February has 29 days instead of 28, in a leap year.

Leap years are years with an extra day (February 29); this happens almost every four years. Generally , leap years are divisible by four, but century years are special, they must also be divisible by 400. The year 2000 was a leap year. The years 2001, 2002, and 2003 are not. LEAVITT, HENRIETTA Henrietta Swan Leavitt (1868-1921) was an American astronomer who first described the relationship between the period and the brightness (luminosity) of Cepheid variable stars. ..

In the Gregorian calendar, a leap year is any year which number can be divided by 4 without a remainder, and years ending in hundrets are no leap years unless they are divisible by 400. But the Eastern Orthodox churches compute leap years within the Gregorian calendar by using another rule; and that, a leap year is any year which number can be divided by 4 without a remainder, and years ending in hundrets are leap years, if a remainder of 2 or 6 occurs when such a year is divided by 9

You shouldn't feel stupid, no one can know everything about the world.

A Leap year occurs every 4 years due to the adjustment necessary due to the earths elliptical orbit around the sun. The last one was 2004 and the next one is in 2008. One day is added to the calender to compensate and that comes in February by having 29 days in the month and not the usual 28.

One year is really 365 days plus a quarter of a day, as determined by the earth's rotation around the sun. To make up the lost quarter day, a leap year is recognized every fourth year. When is it? Well, the first was year 'four' etc.
You can determine leap years by dividing, ex: the year 3456 divided by 4 = 864 and no remainder. That means any year divided by 4 without a remainder is a leap year :-).

A leap year is a year which has 366 days instead of the usual 365 days. The extra day is added to the month of February which then has 29 days.A leap year comes one in every 4 years. The theory behind it is that the earth takes 365.25 days to complete one revolution around the sun.To avoid confusion this 0.25 days is not counted for the first three years & an extra day is added to the 4th year(since 0.24+0.25+0.25+0.25=1) which then has 366 days.I do hope that I was able to clear your confusion.
