Please let me set some things straight. I am a fundamental conservative Christian, one of those "evangelicals" that the media and the rest of the country are so concerned over.
To begin with, "Thou Shalt Not Kill" is a misquote from the Bible. If you study the original Hebrew that the book of Lev. was written in, the word is more accurately translated as MURDER, not kill. Very different connotation.
Now, on to guns. As a Christian, our world views tells us that all of humanity is in a fallen state, that is to say that there is evil that exists inside each one of us. Because of this evil, there is evil in the world, and we cannot fix it. However, God can, and he sent His Son to do just that, but I digress.
Guns are not inherently evil, people are. There is noting wrong with owning a gun that is used for hunting (not trophy hunting, meat hunting), sports (target shooting), or self defense. God never intended for us to let a killer or rapist into our home to do his worst without defending ourselves.
I don't believe that civilians should own large-scale weapons like the Mark 19, M60, tanks, bombs, etc. etc, that goes far beyond the rational for home defense and into the realm of militia.
In the book of Psalms it states that God hates a man who sheds innocent blood. It is the motives of the individual that we need to question, not the gun itself.
And finally a word on the early Church and evil committed by it. READ THE BIBLE, please, and you will find that every time the Church (that is to say PEOPLE) did something evil, it was because they were GOING AGAINST GOD'S WORD, as stated in the Bible.
As I said before, we are humans and that makes us flawed and evil. Don't blame Jesus Christ for the action of the Catholic Church or people like those wackos who kill abortion doctors because if you actually read the scripture you'll find that they are DOING IT WRONG.
God Bless!

The church's stand is firm. guns should not be allowed into the hands of masses without being legally acquired. but it must be had for defence. "Thou shall not kill" we agree but "the world sufferet violence and the violent must take it by force". Think about it.

i do not comprehend that I actually have ever heard a Church stand on guns. Many Christians hunt and shoot skeet and different kinds of purpose shooting , which includes myself. The "thou shalt no longer kill" section is speaking of homicide and we are hostile to that. i do no longer and could no longer provide up my guns till Jesus returns. i imagine our founding fathers knew what they were doing even as they gave us a perfect to undergo fingers. additionally they knew what they were doing even as they gave us a republic truly of a democracy.
