My daughter was quite the eater. She had rice cereal in the morning with some bananas or applesauce mixed in. And at lunch it was usually a half jar of veggies and a half jar of fruit. Sometimes it would be a whole jar of the "dinners" and she would have some of those Gerber Fruit Puff things as well (she loved the sweet potato ones) And she would have juice with lunch. 2 oz of juice mixed with 2 oz water. For her bottle afterwards she would stop drinking whenever she was done. You need not worry about giving her too much bottle- she simply will not drink if she is too full. Usually after eating a meal though she only took about a four ounce formula bottle but she had some juice too. Only I was never sure just how much of the 4 oz she got because at the time she was still getting used to sippie cups and most of them don't have the lines to indicate how much is there. But I'd say 2-3 oz of it.

I'm not an expert but I have had one child. When I started feeding her food I started out with the baby cereal (rice). They say to feed her vegetables first then fruits. One kind of food at a time. For example feed her green beans for a few days then something else. That way you'll be able to tell what she is allergic to. I just bought one of everything the store had and mixed it in with the cereal. That way it was thicker and she got full enough. I poured four oz. of mild into a bottle then two into a bowl. I mixed the cereal in and then added about half a jar of whatever fruit or vegetable in with it. I let her eat until she just didn't want anymore then I would give her the bottle to wash it all down. My daughter loves food so most of the time she ate everything and drank all that I gave her. I started out feeding her once every night. Plus, the bottles during the day of course. Then when she really got the hang of eating it I fed her in the morning and at night. Then three times a day. After she started acting like she didn't want the cereal anymore I just stopped mixing the two together and she ate right out of the jar. Alittle crazy but I hope it helps.

That sounds like way too much food for her age!

First, doctors are now recommending that you wait until 6 months to start solids. If you are already giving her a little food now, that's ok, but it's just for practice, really. She should still be getting most of her nutrition from formula. Try giving her a tablespoon of cereal and a tablespoon of fruit twice a day, and give her formula as often as she seems hungry. Don't focus on "how much"; rather, focus on reading her cues - does she seem hungry? Give her more. Is she losing interest in her food or bottle? She is full.

My baby is 10 months old and only eats 1 jar of baby food a day, plus a whole lot of Cheerios!

if you are giving her meals twice a day, you should maybe start with a half jar of each, and then the rest of each jar at the next feeding until her belly grows a bit more. try juices instead of formula with each meal. baby apple juice or other baby juices. doctors don't always know best...too much formula, especially with meals can bind her little tummy and cause gas pains. also, you can try giving her stage 1 meats with her dinner meal. there are also snacks good around 5 months or so by gerber...they are fruit/veggie puffs that melt in thier mouths...better than the biscuits, which my youngest choked on...but 4 ounces of juice or formula would be fine unless she acts like she wants more. it really depends on your baby....mine were eating cereal at 2 weeks (very thin) and jar foods at 2 months..

that seems like a lot for a 5mth old.every baby is different, but don't be concerned if she does not eat all of that .she will let you know when she has had enough, then just when you think you have got her figured out, she will change. the key is be flexible, have food on hand to give if she wants more than usual, but don't force feed her because it is what you have been told she "should" eat. sorry cant give advise on formula, I'm breastfeeding.

Go to your community nurse and she/he will give you help and it will be the right help or go to the library and look it up. Children that old should not eat solids and if you can feed he/she fresh food freshly cooked and put through a sieve.
