Yes -- there is a problem with "various kinds of topics," It's redundant speech. The word "various" implies "Kinds." If you use them together it is sloppy speech. The key rule in language is,
"Omit Needless Words." The example I've given below is all you need. Trust me.

It's fine as it is, so long as you mean to say that the KINDS of story are varied, rather than simply that the stories themselves are varied. For example, you might have a story that is amusing, a story that is shocking, a story that is deadly boring, and so on.

It should be "stories." And the question should read either; "Are there any grammar problems?" or "Is there a grammar problem?"
