Their bonuses for a DUI are so big, that if you don't reek of liquor, they order you to take a blood test, wasting state money chasing a stupid bonus! Does this happen anywhere else?

I have to say I'm shocked.

In Michigan, police receiving bonuses or "commissions" has been ruled illegal, and against the public interest.

Guess I'll just write it down in my big book of all the reasons I don't want to live in Utah.

Good luck with all that!

I've heard of this in FL. but, I'm not so sure it's true for DUI's. It seems highly likely for the traffic tickets. Keeps them working rather than hanging out at the donut shops !

In Texas they call it "Incentive Pay".

We recently had a big to-do about it in Houston.

Some Harris Co. Police were put behind a desk for not making their quota.

When asked about such "quota", they responded with "We have what you call Incentives. The more people we bust, tickets we write, the more money we make".

Fancy phrase for quota.

It should not be allowed to continue. the government should find a better way of taking care of them rather than allowing them to waste resources. In some African states, they not only collect these, they also try to extort money from citizens for nothing.

Is it not apauling?

most cops anymore don't work on commision and haven't for a long time. but in utah things are little backwards. it is a waste of money.

didn't know that. I do know they really push the tickets on some days . small cities live on the fines they collect.
