Worse still, it's harder to be so towards the ones close to us half of the time.

I think the root cause is a sense of insecurity born out of scarcity. Life is short and the time of death uncertain ...... the most telling combined factor giving us a sense of inadequacy. In comparison, our desires are many and multiply when addressed. In order to maximise fulfilling our desires, we feel inadequate and insecure and that leads to our behaviour and attitude towards others overruling our basic nature of being helpful and friendly.

Although some people try hard to be good their makeup and basic human nature makes them less than good. Man has been fighting man since the beginning of his creation. Even the Old Testament has Cain killing Abel. It hasn't changed since only gotten a lot worse. We now kill with sophisticated weapons and we kill more than one person at a time. We can wipe out an entire city if we so desire. Why are we so evil? Only God knows. This is the way He wanted us to be and so here we are. I never question what God does.

Interesting question - First off, lets assess what kindness and fair play are.

Kindness is a charitable behaviour that many consider to be a virtue that varies from culture to culture.

Fair Play - This normally refers to a sporting term but also means a moral awareness of justice.

This is about morality and culture. Morals differ between individuals and cultures enhance these differences. What is fair to one is unfair to another and likewise kind or unkind.

It is not hard or simple to be kind and fair. Mostly its neither in the form of ignorance. Particularly greed and ego restrain our ability to play fair or be kind.

The problem with this question is that it is such a true statement. It is sad that humans are so instinctly mean to one another. The true test in life is to be one's self and not to follow the masses. Mean, evil people do get their just rewards. Just observe, you will find, like most people will testify to, whether on the giving or receiving end, what goes around does come around.

Whos us ? I dont have any problem. The world is made up of
a very diverse attitude of people. Unfortunately there are many
that have an attitude of - Ill get you before you get me. There are
still an abundance of nice people out there. The problem is how
to know who is who. I think the people that have a cheating
attitude are cheating themselves. I sleep well at night.

Coz humans are good as long as it is from a distance and it doesn't affect them.
Once we see others doing better than us in any way, then the fangs come out!

Nobody wins at Monopoly®

We need better games.

When I play monopoly I'm sure not to let anyone go bankrupt on one of my properties... No one realizes that's how you lose the game.
