I like them both, but I have to say that Donald Sutherland - the original Hawkeye Pierce - did a better job of it. Alan Aldas' Hawkeye was just a bit TOO glib for me...

Not quite a fair comparison...Donald Southerland was only in the movie, which lasted all of, what? 2 hours...Alan Alda was able to perfect the character after YEARS of being on the air. I love both actors...I think they both portrayed Hawkeye brilliantly.

Alan Alda for sure...he brought extra dimensions to the character where Southerland just portrayed him as a sleaze ball with no redeeming characteristics.

I Love Alan Alda. He is sooooo funny. And handsome.
He also showed empathy for the others more sincerely.
