i just started and i have only seen all the original pokemon (150) are the new pokemon in the game as well

There are 202 Pokemon in the Kanto region, and 386 pokemon in the National region. So, it means that you'll have to collect all 386 of them in FireRed. These also applies to Pokemon LeafGreen, Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, although certain pokemon in the R/S/E may not be in LF/FR and vice-versa. You can get them by trading through link cable, or through cheats if you're using VBA.
And yes, there are new pokemon in FireRed and the R/S/E/LF too.

in the normal pokedex there is 251 pokemon
in the national pokedex (defeat elite four, 60 pokemon caught, speak to oak) there is 386
in firered there is (catchable+evloveable) about 189
