no he just had a bad day

And that sums up part of the problem here. The remark was made by Michael Richards, not Cosmo Kramer. A real person, not a fictional character. Too many people "impose" the character on the actor. Michael Richards, in real life, is absolutely nothing like Kramer. Is Michael Richards backwards for the remarks that were made? Yes, a little. Was he having a bad day? Who knows.

Yes, K.R.A.M.E.R is R.E.M.A.R.K. backwards. I'm sure a lot of people here noticed, but that won't stop us discussing "the question" here anyway.

I don't know if his remark was backwards, but I do know that "N1@@ER " ain't a word that a person just throws out becuse they are angry with someone. I mean he didn;t hesitate when he said that word. So for him to come out and apologize for saying '"N1@@ER" is inexcusable. Its like that was the first word on his mind to use. So I know that some people reading this response will say what is the big deal.

I mean, when Mel Gibson said those anti Jewish comments a few months back, Jewish people were insulted. So if you are not black or an African Aerican, you can not know the anger that goes with hearing that KRAMER outburst. So since most non black readers in here cannot identify that anger, lets all move on. Micheal Richards is not funny anyway. He is a has been who needed the publicity anyway and this was his way of getting it. He did get his publicity.

An odd question. Most people ask: Is he really a racist. They don't even dress it up with terms like "backward" but OK I'll try to work with that. Sometimes when people do as he said he did "Go into a rage" they say ANYTHING they think will hurt the people they perceive as attacking them. They often don't mean it. However, I think that most comics know that stand up comedy in front of a live audience is one of the toughest things a human being can do! It's like the being a gladiator in a coliseum in ancient times. It's not for the faint of heart. Most of them know that sometimes being heckled COMES WITH THAT territory and they think out in advance if they will just ignore it, handle it with humor, etc. Did he think that he couldn't be heckled? Is so, why, because he made millions on a taped sitcom with a team of writers? Did he think because of this he would be coddled by a live audience? If he did his instincts are off, he's not hungry anymore and he thought wrong. Interesting thing Geraldo Rivera said y on his show "At Large" tonight. He said "Now we know why we never saw any black people on Seinfeld" LOL. I think only Michael Richards (AKA Kramer) knows if he's a racist or just a spoiled celeb acting out when his live and evidently unfunny jokes weren't accepted by a few rude people. For his career however, yes it may have been "backward". Sure Hollywood is a very racist town, the entire entertainment industry is. But they don't like people who are OPENLY racist. Casting a show/movie with 99% all whites for YEARS (OC, 90210, Seinfield, Dawson's Creek, Friends and most films) is OK with them. Using the "N" word publicly is a career-ender. It's hypocritical yes but so are most mega industries right? Entertainment is definitely NO exception.

Please don't shoot the messenger. . That's whats wrong with America. This country was founded on imperialism, biggotry, lies, and trickery. People of color, not just blacks, are still feeling the effects of an unfair/unjust America since the Mayflower arrived at Plymouth Rock. No one wants to talk about the past and it's affect on America today. Here is a hypothetical: When you're in a relationship, and something is troubling you, wouldn't you like to address the issue? Or would you rather hold it including everything he/she does to piss you off until one day you go "postal" .
Things have improved some what in America but we {people of color) still have quite a long way to go as far as equity. Yeah, I do agree that hecklers are rude ignorant bastards. and they should only be allowed to watch performances through a sound proof room. But I hold that professionals should conduct themselves as so. Society holds professionals at a higher ethical standard. He went on a rage for about three minutes.
At this point, it doesn't matter, but Kramer used the racial epithets first after the hecklers told him he wasn't funny. Then came word cracker in defense of being called a "******" 14 times.

Until we form a consensus to address these issues, America will never become the "Utopia" subliminally stated in the constitution.

I think it's a double standard due to the fact that rappers say the "N" word (No I don't use it!!) every other word!! And you hear all these little hip hop clowns refer to themselves as it again every other word...I have no problem with the fact that he snapped and called them something they probably refered to themselves as all day long anyway....It was the comment that precipitated it

"If it was 50 years ago you'd be hanging upside down with a fork in your a*s" That blew my mind...

Something like that just doesn't roll off your tongue unless you've thought about it before..That was unbelievably offensive and crossed every there was to cross in my mind!! The dudes career has been dead for years. So I can't even say he buried himself with that comment...But he sure let people know where his mind lies..He's racist no if's ands or buts about it.

I would not say that he is backward. I would say that he has a problem dealing with his anger and maybe it would be a good idea to seek help dealing with his anger. Being a racist does not mean that you are backward. People who think like that were taught to think like that when they were young, it is hard to unlearn that kind of thinking

It just reiterates the fact that racism is alive and "well". Sad but true, what is it that was commented "oh that is why there were no black people on Seinfeld". Things that make you go "Oh Damn".
