Mine is more like jeckyl and Hyde! Sometimes she is wonderful, which is my favorite time. We get along well and everyone is happy, especially my hubby!

Other times I wonder what on earth happened to her and why she's suddenly turned into well... into a witch as you put it!

These are the times that are trying on my temper. They are hard on my husband and my kids. I try to bite my tongue and smile because that is best for the family. I also try to remember how she is when she is a friend. It makes it hard though because you never know which one you will get when you call her! But she is my husbands mother and I love her. After all someday I will be the mother in law and hope I am given the same courtesy. We can't all be happy all the time! That said though if she is truly insulting then this is where I draw the boundry line. I just say, I'm sorry you feel that way, but I think we should discuss this when your ready to talk about it without being abusive. That works really well! I even taught it to my new sister in law when she married 'the baby' of the family! I know it makes it's kind of treating her like a child, but I do it without a condesending tone. You have to draw boundries. There are times when I have said it and then said I'm going to hang up now because I don't want to say something I am going to be sorry and regret later.

Now that said my husband doesn't let her bad talk me at all. He tells her that I am his wife and it hurts him as well as his grandchildren.

When she is good she is very very good but when she is bad give me patience!

The answer really depends on you and you husband. If he portatrays you wrongly then no matter how well you try to build a relationship the broom will come out... on the other hand should you and hime compliment efforts you can build a relationship that even rival the besty mate that you ask!

I have had two one was fine the other was a money driven harpie as was her bed hopping daughter so I have had experience of both my first was a lovely women very kind and friendly the second was a total mare who would go out and blow £1500 on a pair of specs or something similar! She also seemed to collect Rolex watches and other such foibles much to the chagrin of my father in law if she could not have what she wanted we all had to suffer her sulks

Not only an evil, broom riding witch but queen of the coven. She wouldn't even be able to convince a black cat to be her medium

I had a fantastic mother-in-law, she never interfered, I could talk to her about anything, she was more of a mate than a mother-in-law, wish she was still here as I miss her dearly.

i didn't have a mother-in-law, but 3 wicked sisters-in-law who made my life a living hell for 15 years. abso-effing-lutely insane. attempted to stab me, threw a glass bottle at my toddler, laughed at me when my first daughter died at age 2 months...on christmas eve...oh geez, i could go on for days, but it's just too hidious to talk about and remember. i am an overly awesome mother-in-law however ...seriously. i totally adore my son-in-law. we have a great relationship...he and my daughter live with me too. i would never treat anyone they way my ex-inlaws treated me, even if i didn't like the person my child chose to be with. i would work on learning to know and understand that person.

mother in law.... anagram of 'Alert Him now'!

they can be alright... some are far to suspicious and they're always ready for a 'i told you so'

never a best mate... but some most certainly can be witches.
