Sometimes I'm embittered because of the way kids treated me in school. Some say I should let it go while a very few agree with me to stay with that feeling. My defense is this: in school you learn to read and write, how electricity works, how to solve math problems and such, etc. you also learn social skills, and like the reading, writing and math, that stays with you as well.
So, as much as I've learned in classes, and socially in class and on my own, I don't forget anything. You are who you are because of things like this. I can say that I don't trust people as much because of stupid sh** in school, but I also credit my talent in problem-solving for the same reason of being in school.
This applies even in relationships. Whenever someone leaves, you take something new with you, but you also leave something behind with that person. I don't know about this person, but maybe you wouldn't have this bad habit or that bad habit if that person never came around in the first place. Maybe because of this person you have a new interest or hobby, or look at things in a better light which makes you act or react differently. remembering this person shouldn't be holding you back from the present, but should be allowing you to appreciate your past, even to see how much you've changed and how much you've accomplished. Without the past, there would be nothing to compare to.
Someone famous said something along the lines of "those who do not remember the past are doomed to repeat it"

Even if you let her go, she will still be a part of your life. I was in love with someone ages ago and have tried my best to move on...and I have for the most part. But I still have some days when out of the blue I miss them like a physical pain.
Time helps, but if you truly loved them, they are a part of you. That can be a solace or very painful - at times both at once. But you are human, and that is part of the deal. Your experiences total you. So hang onto the feelings and see where life takes you. Life can be cruel, but it's what we've got. There's no un-doing it really.
Now if I could only heed my own advice...that would be something

Never forget her. If she was that important then don't listen to other people. She should be cherished and thought of often. I had a really good friend like that. I just found him after 9 years on myspace! It was awesome. Now we are back to being great friends again.

The question becomes what role did they play, and why are they no longer there. I can give you several good answers, but without those two points none of them will work unless by luck. Email me with the details and I would be happy to help.

Yes. When they pop in your head at strange moments? I should let them go, but part of me is still connected. We may be able to forgive, but not forget. What I really regret, is the fact that I practically ran him out of my life. I know you meant maybe like a mentor or something, but it's the same principal their presence still lingers

Yes, I have met several guys on here as a matter of fact that became important in my life and I will always cherish how we build our relationships and care about eachother, even though 1000's of miles are between us.

In almost everyone's life there is "THE ONE THAT GOT AWAY".
Go forward with your life.....your paths may someday cross again.
You won't forget, but just put her on the back burner of your mind ! If you don't, you'll be missing a lot in life.

Yes. I know what you mean. I believe that if she still means that much to you, you should try to contact her. If she responds, you may have a great relationship that you want and need. If she doesn't, then I'd listen to your friends and family and let it go. I've been there tool
