we haven't been honest about why we are there. We are there because of the backlash of 9/11 period. Our desire for justice of that horrific day was not being met by our search for osoma bin laden. Iraq was an easy , "lets kick their *** If that desire for justice wasn't so strong, we would have spent more time studying the Iraq issue before going in guns a blazing. Most of the terrorists from 9/11 weren't even from Iraq, but from Saudi Arabia, where we should be fighting, if we are going to continue calling this a war against terrorism.

Where does one start?
The whole thing was wrong since day 1.
The west brought Saddam to power as a tool against Iran. When he wouldn't "play ball", they accused him of being affiliated with Al_Quaeda (When he claerly wasnt), and having WMDs (which he didnt). They spread all this propaganda about people wanting Saddam out.
They invaded the country when no one in The UN except Britain, (Which could be considered another US state) would stand with them.
They promised good ole American "Freedom".
Coke and McDonalds for all those poor destitute Iraqis... Instead those poor guys had their genitals electrocuted, their daughters raped, and ther cities flattened.
Now they are mighty pi**ed, coz they realise the good ole American promises were a load of BS. The US only wanted to "free" Iraq coz of OIL.
And as a US president once said: "You can fool some of the people all the time, but you cant fool all of the people all of the time"
Unfortunately some Americans still don't see that Saddam or Iraq were in no way connected to 09/11. They still think their govt. Is "freeing" Iraq. Fighting the wat against terror..
All that has happened is that this world has beome a more dangerous place for us all. They have turned Muslims who were liberals into extremists.
Every one is suffering, inclusing those poor souls who had nothing to do with all this horrible carnage.. (The victims of the Madrid bombings, 07/07 and Bombay blasts)
You have failed in Iraq bcoz:
- Your govts are greedy for oil and lied to the US people as well as the poor Iraqis.
I pity those all the people American and Iraqi who have lost their lives in this dirty war.
Violence is nevr the anser, and greed destroys.
But what goes around comes around.

Sun Tzu provides the answer in "The Art of War", written in 500 BC. He says that if you prosecute a protracted military campaign on foreign soil, you will eventually lose.
The US entered into this conflict without understanding the enemy. We also entered it without clear military objectives or an end game. We also underestimated the resolve of the enemy. Finally, we were too arrogant to be flexible when the situation started becoming desperate. You simply cannot force democratic change at gunpoint.
This campaign has, I am afraid, permanently smeared the United States, and is a historical turning point in US history, signalling the decline of US influence and prestige around the globe. We have become our own worse enemy. You cant simply blame Republicans. Its not that easy. I fear that the situation has set the world on a course of dire consequences. I am not sure that there is an honorable way out at this point. It may simply me a matter or time to allow events to sort themselves out. I think we have created a situation that will ultimately involve a nuclear detonation somewhere, somehow.

First you should ask yourself what is considered a failure usually that involves measuring againts some kind yardstick, so compare what we have accomplish to what has happen in all of our past wars, that will give you a good gage. Second this war is similar to Vietnam in one respect, it's is almost impossible to win any conflict if one party sole objective is turn half of the population againts the war to regain power, a country divided usually don't win anything. I never saw all this division againts the war from the other party when our former president involve us in the Bosnia conflict.

1. This (illegal) war was badly mismanaged,
2. The growing insurgency stirred up by al-Qaeda, causing a lot of death and destruction all over Iraq,
3. Our troops are committing egregiously brutal crimes against Iraqi civilians, namely murder, rape, and torture,
4. Bush's bad policies on Iraq,
5. No clear strategy; the whole thing was bungled up from the very beginning; and,
6. The war is totally unwinnable; it's a resemblance of the Vietnam War back in the late 60's and the early 70's-a brutal and bloody quagmire!

Because the US Policy ignores the rights and freedoms that they are supposedly bringing in as the so-called "warriors of democracy." This intern fuels insurgency causing even more backlash by extremists and those who become them. PLUS they didn't find those WMDs (weapons of mass destruction) which would mean failure marks because that was the reason they went in...right?
Really, the US is in it for oil, nothing else. They are just hoarding resources without trying to genuinely help the citizens out. Do you wonder why the US isn't attacking N korea when they obviously and bluntly produced WMDs?

Because we refuse to stand up for what we believe in, for what's right, and without a firm moral ground, based on reason and science, we cannot begin to tell anyone else how to run their lives let alone their country. A bunch of Christian mystics with no sense vs. a bunch of Arab mystics with a death wish. What are we going to tell them except to become Christians? That won't change a thing! We need to tell them, "settle down, act civilized, get a job, or it's aerial bombing time."
