I know that the tip is included in the price at restaurants, etc. What about taxi rides? furniture delivery people? the guy who comes to open the phone line? Is it appropriate/good manners in those types of instances?

(I am an American living in France.)

I know. It is terrible for foreigners in France this tipping question. Even in a restaurant, i leave a small tip (3 % of the bill) . for taxi driver it is usual to give 5 % When i receive a parcel, I give also one or two euros.
I want to tell you some think that happened to me. I was in the 60 th in Kharkov to the hair dresser. On the office there was a table and you could read : the tip is an insult to the honest worker. And after they had their hair cut , the persons ask to the hair dresser: can I insult you? And he answered : please do not mind...

Hi,

Tipping is always welcome anywhere, just be careful not to "insult" them with the amount you give.

General rule:
1) 10% of the price of the taxi fare/restaurants
2) the amount should be enough for a decent meal in France (take away food) for others.

Have a good stay in France.
