Or is the 19" just over kill and a 17" sufficient enough? I'm going to buy a new LCD monitor but I don't want to waste money needlessly. Would there be any problems with the larger screen as far as getting it to display correctly because of the larger size? (I'm running a AGP 256mb ddr Nvidia graphics card. Standard VGA connection.) Will not be used for Gaming or ultra high graphics stuff. From your experience, is it worth the extra money to go with the bigger size screen?

Please also check characteristics of both monitors like no. of pixels, resolution, refresh rate etc.

I think its your choice to go for 17" or 19", but if u want to work with graphics/ multimedia, i would suggest you go with 19".

No, it is an expense not an investment and it will not generate any income. You may get more space on your desk, but you can't really use it, because it is hard to access stuff behind your monitor and you can't have anything in front of you. If you need a huge monitor like 21" or so then it becomes very practical, but for smaller ones, it doesn't do a whole and the resolution is actually not as sharp as a regular CRT monitor.

For those with impaired eyesight, character size on 17 inch might be too small at 1280 x 1024. Character size on 19 inch is the same as 15 inch LCD and many 17 inch CRTs at 1024 x 768.

Bigger is not always better. If you are a regular user, word processing but no DTP, email, games but not an addict ... well stick to 17 inch. Big enough. Save the money.

19" LCDs have the same max screen resolution as 17" - 1280x1024.

so i'd better buy a good 17".

Depends on what you're gonna do with it. If you're a heavy word processor/database editor/photoshop user, bigger is always better. If you're the quaint "check email, cruise internet, shut down" type, don't waste your money on two extra horses.

you will like having a 19" monitor more room to throw documents around in
and you shouldn't have any problems displaying it
