I'm confused by your question. When you say 'next round', are you referring to the premiership or european champions league? The premiership is an ongoing competition? As they're completely seperate i can't see how you've tied them in on this specific question in the way that you have.
Regarding MUFC, they don't have the strength in depth of Chelsea, so will rely on minimising injuries. Personally, i can't see many other teams challenging Chelsea and MU this season. Arsenal and Liverpool have lacked consistency to date, and it's hard to see enough depth in any of the other teams in the top half to compete for a whole season at the summit. You'd need both MU and Chelsea to have a really bad run for any other team to win it, and whilst i can see it happening to one, i can't to both.

a lot of it depends how well man utd cope with the very busy christmas period...
leading the premiership even after christmas is no guarantee you'll win the premiership (remember aston villa a few seasons ago... and even older newcastle had about a 12 point lead at chistmas to lose it)
Injuries is always a big thing... but you are right, they are only 3 points ahead of chelsea, but a lot of the man utd squad are in some excellent form...
we're seeing giggs and scholes hit some form like we were 10 watching them 10 years ago, ronaldo is a constant threat...
I think all man utd lack is a decent strike partnership... rooney and saha just doesn't seem to work and d + s at chelsea looking to be finally working together...
I think this season will be the closest for a long time...
will man utd win?... maybe it's a 2 horse race between them and chelsea, dropped points are going to hurt.

I don't fully understand the question, your asking why many think they will win the Premiership, then your saying they don't have enough players to compete in the "next round". There is no rounds in the Premiership its a league.

I am definitely not one of the many that think Man United will win EPL.
They are good, but they slip on important matches. A good example was losing to Arsenal at home this season. I doubt they can beat Chelsea this weekend also. The most may be is to salvage a draw.
My bet for this season is Arsenal to win EPL.

united started off strong this season and it as given them a confidance boost which i think will take them to the title. If they keep playing the way they are then there is every chance that they will run away with it.

If they play the rest of the year like they did against Celtic they have no chance. Poor finishing, poor tackling and poor attitudes.
