I understand...
Afternoon shift stinks...
But just get used to it..
I know it's hard because when you go home you feel like mising a lot of happennings but if you really have to go on for your job, go..
If you can shift into morning or evening, why not???
Ryt?
Just do what you can and what you have to...
And enjoy your days...

When I was on this shift with 3 pre school kids I always felt like I was always in the middle of things in the morning that by the time I due to go to work. . was very frustrating and limiting.
Getting off at 9pm when everyone was asleep I was able to come home and get those things left unfinished all done.
I began to enjoy the peace and quiet and time to do my housework and to work quietly on my sewing, knitting etc.
Working those hours eventually became a plus as I could spend time with my children or friends and get my housework done when no one was calling or coming over.
Refigure your schedule for time being and before you know it,it will be time to get on a day shift.
Night shifts really suck because the phone rings more than you realize until you are trying to get some sleep.
Daytime noises seem to become more pronounced when you are trying to sleep.
You really aren't a part of society when you work the night shift so enjoy the afternoon shift as much as you can.

I used to love working the "evening" shift, but I was single then. So almost every night after work we would all go out and have fun.
If you're married and have kids, then I understand why you go home and feel a little trapped by the situation. Maybe there is a hobby you can pursue each evening to make better use of your time than YA or watching TV.

I'm a nurse in aged care. I like the afternoon shift manly because i am not a morning person. but i know what you mean you don't feel like you can do much in the morning because you have work in the after noon, then by the time you get home your sitting around by yourself. maybe see if someone wants to swoop with you

i work 5-12 and i love it. i never ever want to wake up early. i can see how it can be hard if you have a family though. both me and my fiance work the same hours so its easy for us. i did work the graveyard shift for a time though and that was HORRIBLE. I would never do that again unless i was making boatloads of cash, and even then only temporarily.

I have worked all three shifts.
There are pros and cons to each one. List them, and decide what you want to try next.
