I know enough to change a tyre and to know if my car has over heated and a few other simple things. I believe if you drive a car you should know the basics of car maintenance or your a very silly person.

Yes. But I have my sons to help. We have a great time doing it. Our weird hobby is buying cars from police impound auctions and getting them up and running again.
We scour the junk yards for parts. We have even done some rather good jobs at painting some of the cars. Some of the cars we sell right away, some we drive awhile and then sell them. I think everyone of my relatives has bought a car from us lol. Not really a money -maker but we have fun doing it.
By the way, I am not my son's father--I am their mother.

No. Cars have gotten so complicated that only a specialist can properly repair them.

Yeah, for the most part. I've never overhauled and engine or transmission, but I can do most of the rest(if I want to)

It depends on what breaks.
I can work on small things like flat tires, oil changes, thermostat, etc.
I know more than men who know little about mechanics...LOL
