The answer is that it depends on big the crack is (wide).

The glass serves a multitude of purposes.
* Vision to check on the fire.
* Allows heat (radiant) thru.
* Prevents carbon monoxide from entering the room (deadly bi-product). If this is happening, do not use the stove - it will kill you.
* Prevents room air from being used as combustion air (an Energy Code concern). By allowing the fire to use room air for combustion, a negative pressure is formed in the house and it sucks in outside air (cold) under the door, cracks and gaps in the house. You actually use more energy to have a fire this way than to turn on the central heater.

So, the answer is:
IF the crack is wide enough to allow air to pass thru, DO NOT USE THE STOVE.

Sounds like either the wrong glass or the opening has something causing the glass not to seat properly. This could cause the glass to break. Did you replaced the gasket around the glass?? It may be the problem. Remember when you get new glass it must be tempered glass.

If it's only a crack use it. If it breaks out cut a piece of tin from something, a can and put that in for now, what the heck!

Hey, when it's cold....it's cold!
I had a whole pane of glass break out of a woodstove that I had. (it got really hot!)
I put a pizza pan propped up against it and it worked fine for the next 10 years.

I would not recomend it. If it cracks further it can have small pieces pop out.

depend on how terrible the crack is. if the crack single and not that long, still can use. but crack too many and widespread, cannot use otherwise crack more.
