Preamble: "We the people of the United States, in order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare, and secure the blessings of liberty to ourselves and our posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."

Really it does not protect the rights of anyone but rather explains/justifiies the reasons for establishing the constitution. It is the ideoloistic agenda of a rather progressive document, and not necessarily a securing of rights. In fact the original constitution secured VERY FEW rights to individuals...that was taken up in the Bill of Rights to ensure the passage of the consistution.
