It does not retain the containment's.A very simple answer. It is better for high temp plus a lot more technical reasons
Oil never breaks down it's the containment's from the engine, like carbon, ammonia hydrocarbons ect that effect oil produced from crude oil. This is the reason we must change oil filters on a regular schedule
Be very careful using Synthetic oil in engines that have a lot of high mileage.
Hope this helps. Waltz

Synthetics last longer--much longer than normal oil. But you do still need to replace your filter at regular (3000-5000 mi.) intervals. Synthetic is also far more slippery, so it should not be used in older cars because of increased cylinder blow by. Or if you drive in a really dusty environment (like me) you'll still have to change as frequently as normal oil.

Synthetic oil sticks to the moving parts of your engine so that they are already coated when you start up. That reduces heat (friction). Synthetic oil doesn't break down as fast and when used in wet clutch motorcycle engines, the molecules are more resistant to shearing.
