I warm up the car 5 minutes or so when it is winter time. There are times that you can hear the engine sound becomes warmed up if you let it sit for 10 minutes or so. I never have that kind of patient.

I drive almost immediately when it is summer time.

But when i drive it, I drive slowly for the first few minutes before I start letting it loose.

But again, it depends on where you live and how much you care about your car.

If possible you should wait about a minute or so to allow the oil to circulate through out the engine . Most common way is to wait until your oil Gage is reading pressure , then give it another minute and then your pretty safe to go ...... People have all different ways of how to do it . It depends on the type of oil used , if the engine has been metal treated , How you were told as a teenager growing up what was best .....but over all 1 to 2 minutes is enough time to get that oil to circulate and be safe .

An old bmw manual of mine recomends NOT warming up your car, but instead to drive easily for the first few minutes. Most gearheads agree--as soon as you have full oil pressure (5-10 seconds) you're good to go. If your car is older it might require a warm-up just to take off without choking, but with most cars you're just wasting gas.

This is 2006 you don't warm up engines any more that is old hat.
Start the engine and drive at a moderate speed till the temp Gauge reaches it's normal running position.
