YES, you need passport when going to the Philippines. You just only need certified copy of birth certificate if you are an American Citizen, passport ID photo, it will just only take 1 hour to process your application and pay necessary fee and wait for about 5 weeks until you will receive your passport by post. Hope this will help you. Good luck

First off, check that your plane lands in Manila because the international airport in Pampanga is active. As for papers, the embassy would be the experts on those. Health-wise, there have been no reports of disease outbreaks although there has been reports of food poisoning in some areas mainly due to consumption of contaminated food. Since you are from the country, the best way to make your terminal exit would be for relatives to meet you at the airport. Unfortunately, taking a taxi from the airport can be quite expensive and if you are not careful, the fare can be quite unreasonable. Please contact family members here now, I am sure they would be very willing to greet you. Also while in the airport, there will be persons who take your photos for "keepsake". You are not obliged to buy these from them. There are plenty of good hotels within walking distance from the US embassy. Be prepared though since it is now the rainy season and if you are coming somewhere in August, that's the time when storms really pound the country, especially the Luzon island.

Yes, definitely. When you get to the PH you'll receive a 21 day Visa at the airport so no need to worry about that. Just get your US passport.

Yes, better apply for it and you will get one. Maybe, you're asking for the VISA. I think, no need for visa it yo will just stay here for only a week. But to make sure, once you apply for your passport, inquire about the visa, too.
Happy trip :)
